2018 International Symposium – Principles & Recommendations: Working with Families in Transition in the 21st Century is a proceedings publication presenting key principles, recommendations, and best practices arising from an international symposium held in Montréal, Québec.

The volume focuses on complex family dynamics and high-risk situations, including high-conflict co-parenting, parental estrangement and alienation, child abduction, and domestic violence. It brings together interdisciplinary perspectives from legal, psychological, and social work professionals, offering practical insights for those working directly with families in transition.

Developed under the direction of Children Now (Avant Tout, les Enfants)—a Montréal-based non-profit organization devoted for over 35 years to advancing the well-being of children—this publication reflects a strong commitment to child-centered, ethical, and collaborative approaches.

Intended for practitioners, educators, and professionals, this book serves as both a reference tool and a contribution to ongoing dialogue on protecting children and supporting families in the 21st century.
